We finally have some new details for the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta. Find out everything you need to know including the release dates and platforms.
On October 28, 2022, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be released on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, including a whole new campaign and multiplayer mode. However, you won’t have to wait till launch to play the game because a whole new Open Beta will be available before then.
Early access to the Open Beta will be available to those who buy the game, with even earlier access for PS5 and PS4 owners. Here’s all you need to know about the forthcoming Modern Warfare 2 beta, including how to get in.
How to join Modern Warfare 2 Beta
Your first taste of Modern Warfare 2 will arrive before the game’s October 28th release date, dubbed an “open beta.” The purpose of the Modern Warfare 2 Beta is for players to “offer critical input to assist assure the greatest possible Day One experience when the game opens.
Modern Warfare 2 Early Access
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 preorders are already open, and there are a few different versions to pick from. Remember that with your preorder, you’ll gain early access to the Open Beta and won’t have to pay anything until the game arrives in late October. So you could preorder, obtain a beta ticket, and then cancel your order once the beta ends if you don’t like the game.

We don’t have a definitive date for the Open Beta yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t guess when it will arrive. To begin, the Open Beta for Modern Warfare 2’s predecessor, Modern Warfare, began on September 19, 2019. In comparison, the Open Beta for Black Ops Cold War didn’t start until October 8 (albeit it was delayed until November 15), while Vanguard’s began on September 10 last year (with the full game releasing on November 5. With Modern Warfare 2’s release date set for October 28, we’re guessing the Open Beta will take place in September.
Platforms
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available on the following Platforms
- PC via Steam or Battle.net.
- PlayStation 4 and 5.
- Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
PlayStation owners will get Early Access to the COD Modern Warfare 2 five days before the rest of the world. PS4 and PS5 pre-order customers will receive first access to the Modern Warfare 2 open beta.
“Available on PlayStation at least 5 days earlier than any other platform,” the advert says.
Modern Warfare 2 Standard Edition
While unofficial, the datamined files reveal Activision plans to sell three editions of the game, each of which allows PlayStation users early access to an open beta if they pre-order the game.
The most expensive edition is also said to include the following:
- Battle Pass (1 Season) + 50 Tier Skips
- Red Team Operator Pack: Ghost, Soap, Price, Farah
- FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
- 10 hours 2XP and 10 hours 2WXP
- Ghost Legacy Pack: 12 Operator Skins & 10 Weapon Blueprints
