Nick Lodolo, the starting pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, has been sidelined since the 6th of May due to an issue with his left leg. The injury was first reported as calf tendinitis; however, it was then changed to a tibia stress reaction, which is a more severe injury.

The majority of the past month has been spent with Lodolo confined to a walking boot. After he is taken out of the walking boot, it is estimated that it will take him between four and six weeks before he is ready to participate in game action again. Because of the lengthy layoff, he will need to engage in a throwing program in order to regain his arm strength. According to this timeline, the earliest possible return to Great American Ball Park would be in the beginning of August.

Should there be any other setbacks or should his throwing program take longer than anticipated, he may be sidelined for the better part of the month and he is already on the 60-day IL list. Although he is eligible to return around the time of the All-Star Break, it is obvious that he won’t be ready by then. The pitcher in his second year has struggled mightily to find success this year.

Over the course of 34 and third innings, he has made seven starts and has a career ERA of 6.29. The former seventh overall pick had also been placed on the injured list for a couple of months during the previous season, which was caused by a lower back strain. However, he had impressed with a 3.66 earned run average over 103 and one-third innings as a rookie.
