Why is Julio Urias not playing? Update on Dodgers' ace 3

Julio Urias, the left-handed pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, hasn’t played for a long time and it is quite likely that he will be sidelined for more than two weeks due to an injury to his hamstring. Dave Roberts, the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is optimistic that Julio Urias will be ready to play again when he is removed from the disabled list the next Saturday or shortly after that. Urias was scheduled to participate in a bullpen session at Tropicana Field on either Friday or Saturday as the initial step toward achieving that goal.

During the beginning of Urias’ start on May 18 in St. Louis, he suffered an injury to his left hamstring. Urias claimed that he felt a pull in his hamstring during the third inning of that start, which was the same inning in which he allowed four home runs to be scored.

But according to Roberts, Urias experienced renewed tightness in his hamstring while he was working out on Friday. On Saturday, Urias worked out with Travis Smith, who is the strength and conditioning coach and threw on level ground. However, Urias did not test his hamstring by walking on the pitching mound at any point. The Dodgers’ hopeful proclamations have not been coming true one by one, and the recalculated schedule for Urias’ comeback is only the latest example of this trend.

In addition, Dustin May was placed on the injured list for a period of up to sixty days this week, and it is possible that he could miss even more time than that. This is in contrast to the initial hope that the Dodgers pitcher could return from his elbow injury in four to six weeks.

When was Julio Urias drafted into the MLB?

Julio Urías, the talented pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was signed by the team as an international free agent in August 2012. While he wasn’t drafted in the traditional sense, signing as an international free agent allowed him to begin his journey toward the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Hailing from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, Urías showcased exceptional talent and promise as a young pitcher. At the age of 16, he caught the attention of scouts and drew considerable interest from MLB teams. The Los Angeles Dodgers recognized his potential and signed him to a contract, adding him to their organization’s pipeline of young talent.

Urías made his professional debut in 2013, starting his career in the Dodgers’ minor league system. He quickly impressed with his pitching skills, displaying a smooth delivery, a repertoire of effective pitches, and advanced command on the mound. Despite his young age, he exhibited maturity and composure beyond his years.

As Urías progressed through the minor leagues, his performances continued to generate excitement and anticipation. He displayed excellent control, striking out hitters at an impressive rate and consistently keeping opposing batters off-balance. His success earned him recognition as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

In 2016, at the age of 19, Urías made his much-anticipated MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He became the youngest pitcher in Dodgers history to start a game since the 1940s. Throughout his early MLB career, he showcased his immense potential, exhibiting the ability to generate swings and misses, induce ground balls, and pitch with poise under pressure.

However, Urías faced some setbacks in his journey. In 2017, he underwent shoulder surgery, which sidelined him for a significant portion of the season. Despite the setback, he persevered through rehabilitation and worked his way back to the mound.

In subsequent seasons, Urías continued to contribute to the Dodgers’ success. He transitioned between a starting role and a bullpen role, displaying versatility and adaptability. He played a crucial role in the Dodgers’ championship-winning season in 2020, delivering outstanding performances in the postseason.

Throughout his journey, Julio Urías has established himself as a talented and resilient pitcher. Despite facing challenges and setbacks, he has proven his ability to overcome adversity and perform at the highest level. With his impressive skills and young age, he remains a key part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff and holds significant promise for the future.
