Harkless started playing basketball in High School Days at Forest Hills. Then he shifted to South Kent School and averaged 27.2 points with 13.6 rebounds per game. He was born on May 11, 1993, in Queens, New York and attended St. John’s University where he played college basketball. In 2012, Harkless was selected 15th overall in the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers but was later traded to the Orlando Magic. Throughout his career, Harkless has been known for his versatility, athleticism, and ability to play both small and power-forward positions.
Harkless made his NBA debut with the Orlando Magic during the 2012-2013 season. In his rookie season, he played in 71 games and started 10 of them. Despite being a rookie, Harkless showed great potential and was praised for his versatility, athleticism, and basketball IQ. He averaged 5.0 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game in his first season. In 2016, Harkless was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he established himself as a solid role player and key defender.
