Matthew Moore Hardy, better known by his in-ring name ‘Matt Hardy’, is a cult icon in wrestling. He has fought in AEW, WWE, TNA, Ring of Honor, and various other wrestling promotions.

Hardy is a wrestler by profession and has been around the wrestling scene for more than 28 years, since making his debut in 1992.

Matt Hardy Early Life & Career

Matt Hardy was born in Cameron, North Carolina, to Gilbert and Ruby Moore Hardy. He played baseball throughout his childhood, and also went on to play football as a linebacker.

He attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he majored in Engineering. Matt, along with his Jeff Hardy, started their own wrestling promotion by the name of The Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts (The OMEGA) in 1997.

Matt Hardy Professional Wrestling Career

Their promotion folded in 1999 after the brothers were contracted by WWF IN 1998. Matt had appeared as a jobber for WWE, and debuted in May 1994 at the age of 19.

Along with his brother Jeff, Matt Hardy formed one of the most iconic tag teams in wrestling history. ‘The Hardy Boyz’, as they were called on WWE, won 6 tag-team championships and fought in iconic matches against Edge & Christian in 1999.

Later, the formed ‘Team Extreme’ with real-life friend Lita, as they appointed her as their manager instead of Michael Hayes. After 2001, Matt went on to have a successful singles career.

He won the ECW Championship at the peak of his powers, amongst many other titles. His 16-year stay at WWF/WWE came to an end in 2010, when he left to join Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).

After 7 years of shuffling between independent wrestling promotions, he made a shock comeback at WrestleMania 33 in April 2017. He ultimately left the promotion one and for all in March this year, citing creative differences with WWE.

After seeing out his contract with WWE in 2020, Hardy now fights in AEW. He reverted to the ‘Broken Matt’ gimmick here, where he appears as a ‘broken man’ due to his brother Jeff Hardy ‘breaking’ him and wanting to ‘delete’ him.

Matt Hardy Tattoos, Cars and House

Unlike his brother Jeff, who is heavily inked, Matt Hardy reportedly does not have any tattoos at all. He hasn’t even been known to use face paint, but does dye his hair with a grey streak as a part of his ‘Broken Matt’ gimmick.

As for his cars, Matt Hardy posted a tweet with his Dodge Ram in the background. Apart from the pickup truck, he has also been reported to own a Chevrolet Corvette.

Matt Hardy also posted an image of him with his Corvette with his house in the background. He also mentioned that he now has a Cadillac Escalade for his family.

Matt Hardy dated former WWE wrestler Lita (Amy Dumas) but broke up in 2005 when he found out that she was having an affair with his close friend Edge (Adam Copeland).

Hardy also dated the late WWE female wrestler Ashley Massaro. He married Rebecca Reyes in October 2013, and has three sons with her; Maxel (b. 2015), Wolfgang Xander (b. 2017), and Bartholomew “Bartie” Kit (b. 2019).
