Manchester United should go all out to sign Jack Clarke from Leeds

As per a report from The Sun, Manchester United are interested in signing teenage sensation Jack Clarke from EFL Championship outfit Leeds United in the ongoing transfer window.

The 18-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign at the Elland Road and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with a number of Premier League clubs including the likes of Manchester City, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur also monitoring the winger. However, it is believed that Manchester United have the edge over their competition in the pursuit of the teenager. (h/t The Sun)

Born in November 2000, the wide man has been with Leeds United since a young age and has been a special talent for quite some time now. Clarke was named among the substitutes for Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat against Newport County in the FA Cup in January earlier this year but he did not come on from the bench.

He had to wait till October to make his first-team bow, coming on as a substitute for the last 20 minutes or so in the 1-1 draw against Brentford at Elland Road under new manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The Thorp Arch product was brilliant in Leeds’ 1-0 win over local rivals and fellow promotion-hunters Sheffield United last month. The England youth international came on to replace Gjanni Alioski at half-time against the Blades at Bramall Lane. He provided the assist for the only goal of the game, finding Pablo Hernandez by cleverly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Till date, the youngster has featured 13 times (2 starts) in the English second division, scoring and assisting two goals apiece, playing his part in helping Leeds to the summit of the Championship.

While Clarke may not have played a lot at the first-team level yet, it is quite evident from his handful of appearances that he is a special talent. Always looking to get on the ball and run at the defenders at speed, the 18-year-old is blessed with blistering pace and has sound dribbling skills as well. Add to that his keen eye for a pass and Leeds have a talented young player brimming with immense potential.

Manchester United are not short of quality in attack with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata. Add to that, there are a number of quality young players coming through the academy – Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, Mason Greenwood, Joshua Bohui to name a few.

However, given the glimpses of talent and promise that Clarke has shown in his fledgeling career, United should press ahead with their pursuit of the teenager. In his short time with the Leeds first-team, the 18-year-old has made a significant impact, showing signs that he has what it takes to be a superstar in the future.
