Hill was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved with his family to the nearby Metro East suburb of Belleville, Illinois, when he was four years old. Hill played soccer and baseball until fifth grade, but chose to focus on basketball. Malcolm Hill played NCAA Division II basketball for the UMSL Tritons in the early 1990s.
