The 29-year-old reached her second quarterfinal in 2023. She lost to Belinda Bencic in the Adelaide International 2 last month.

In the round of 32 of the Lyon Open, the world No. 5 had to slug it out against world No. 87 Tereza Martincova. The match might have ended in straight sets in favor of Garcia but both sets were quite competitive as the 2022 WTA Finals champion won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). In the round of 16, Garcia faced the experienced Alison Van Uytvanck. After being outplayed in the first set by the Belgian star, Garcia came back admirably in the following set and bageled her opponent. In the third set, Garcia continued her dominance as Van Uytvanck managed to win just one game. The match ended 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 in favor of Garcia.

Jasmine Paolini

The world No. 66 has reached her first quarterfinal of the season on the back of a couple of comprehensive wins in straight sets.
