Malcom would be a wonderful signing for Liverpool next summer

According to Spanish source Football Espana, Liverpool are interested in signing Brazilian star Malcom from Barcelona in the summer, having previously been linked with the youngster prior to his €41 million move to the Camp Nou last from Bordeaux last summer.

Barcelona managed to beat off competition from several top clubs across Europe to land the Brazilian sensation but things haven’t really gone according to the script for Malcom at Camp Nou. The 21-year-old hasn’t been given a fair crack of the whip and has started only a single game in the La Liga this term. It would be unfair to criticise him for not being able to adapt to the new surroundings given that he has already scored 3 goals from 14 appearances across all competitions.

Undoubtedly, Malcom is a player with massive potential as he showed during his time at Bordeaux and Corinthians. However, he is still at the developmental stage of his career and lack of regular minutes is only going to stall his progress. To sum it up, a move away from Barcelona would help him get his career back on track.

Standing at 5ft.8 inches with a diminutive frame, Malcom is a technically-gifted and tactically-versatile creative midfielder who is capable of playing in multiple positions across the final third. While he is at his best when deployed as an inverted winger down the right, the Brazilian is equally adept at playing on the left and through the centre as a supporting striker.

Just like most of his international teammates, Malcom has a typical South American touch to his game. Blessed with blistering pace, quick feet, instant acceleration, the 21-year-old is not only adept at ripping apart defences with his dribbling skills but he is also quite good at linking up with his teammates with short exchanges in and around the penalty area. Known for his ability to run at defences and cut inside from the flanks, Malcom has a vicious left foot that is capable of finding the net from outside the box.

To put things into perspective, Liverpool should look to re-ignite their interest in the Brazilian creative ace next summer to add more depth to their attacking options.

Liverpool have enjoyed a wonderful season under Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds pushing defending champions Man City to the limit in pursuit of their first Premier League title in 28 years. Klopp’s men have lost only once in the Premier League this term and they hold the slight edge over City in the title race heading into the crunch end of the season.

The Reds already have a formidable strike force comprising of the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino and much of their success in recent times has been down to the exploits of their front trio. Liverpool completed a massive steal last summer to sign Xherdan Shaqiri while Naby Keita also made his way to Anfield.

While the Reds have a strong enough squad capable of competing on all fronts, they should not hesitate to get rid of deadwood by offloading the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Adam Lallana, none of whom has played a significant role this season. And that is exactly where someone like Malcom would fit into the team.

Granted, Malcom won’t be a regular starter at Liverpool but he has all the makings of being a wonderful squad player, someone who can take the pressure off the shoulders of Salah and Mane. He is an immensely talented player and there is no doubt that he can flourish in the Premier League under the tutelage of a charismatic manager like Jurgen Klopp who is known for his ability to get the best out of youngsters. That said, they should make an audacious swoop for him in the summer.
