Leeds United Opinion: Why Eberechi Eze could be a top signing for Leeds?

According to a report from talkSPORT, Leeds United have expressed an interest to sign Queens Park Rangers starlet Eberechi Eze in the summer.

The 20-year-old midfielder burst on to the scene last term after a solid loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers, bulldozing himself into QPR’s first-team plans in the second half of the season.

However, Eberechi Eze’s form has faded since the turn of the year, with the youngster managing just one assist in the second half of this season. Yet, he remains one of QPR’s prized assets and it will certainly take Leeds United a big offer to persuade the Londoners to sell him in the summer.

Leeds United are aiming promotion to the top-flight and bounced back from a disappointing loss to Birmingham City with a 2-0 victory at Preston on Tuesday. The win over Preston has seen them leapfrog Sheffield United into the second slot, although they remain five points off league leaders Norwich City.

With or without promotion, the Whites need new additions and Marcelo Bielsa must add a goalscoring midfielder to fill the void left by Samu Saiz in January. Pablo Hernandez remains the team’s creative hub but Leeds need a player to share the burden of creating chances, with the Spaniard having turned 34.

Eberechi Eze is one of the Championship’s exciting young talents who will fit the bill perfectly at Elland Road. Blessed with a wonderful technique and engine, the 20-year-old boasts an impressive passing range that clearly belie his age. He is predominantly a no.10 but can play in different positions across the midfield, which will give Bielsa tactical flexibility.

The youngster has good pace to burn and can run at defenders without any fear. Eze might lose possession and misplace passes but his determination to get the ball back and work tirelessly throughout the game make him an ideal fit for Bielsa’s system.

At such a tender age, he keeps the ability to dribble past players in tightest of areas and is gifted with excellent positional awareness. The England U20 international is someone who always likes to get close to the ball and is also known for his superior work rate.

All in all, Eze is a raw product and Bielsa could be the right manager to iron out his flaws and shape up his future.

Verdict

Eze certainly is someone with huge potential and would represent a real coup for Leeds if they could persuade QPR to sell one of their prized assets in the summer.
