Why Glen Kamara would be an excellent option for Leeds United
After falling agonizingly short of securing promotion to the Premier League last season, Leeds United did not spend much time crying over spilt milk.
Instead, they have started the new season quite well and are currently placed 3rd in the table and are 2 points behind leaders West Bromwich Albion.
With the January window coming up, it will be important for Marcelo Bielsa to not repeat the mistakes of the past and sign some solid reinforcements.
As per a report by Football Insider, as cited by Daily Express, Leeds have been linked with a move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara. And if a report from Scotland Herald is to be believed, the Gers are demanding a fee in the region of £8million.
Since joining Steven Gerrard’s side, Kamara has worked wonders and he is one of the most indispensable members of the squad right now. The 24-year-old midfielder has also been excelling for the Finland national team lately.
In the ongoing season, Kamara has been rotated pretty frequently. Along with Ryan Jack, Steven Davis and Joe Aribo, the skilled star has managed to hold his own admirably.
However, sharing game time does limit his chances to a certain extent and to that end, moving to Leeds would certainly be a good way for him to make a name for himself.
That said, unless the Whites are able to secure promotion, it remains to be seen if they are willing to splash out £8million for his services. If they do though, they would have a gem of a player in the squad.
With The Mirror recently reporting that Leeds ace Kalvin Phillips could be on his way to the Premier League, Kamara would be a worthy replacement.
Even if Phillips chooses to stay put at Elland Road, the Rangers star would offer ample cover and competition. Although their styles are quite similar, Kamara slightly edges past the 23-year-old after gaining adequate experience in the Europa League. He has also featured 12 times for Finland this season.
That said, Phillips is a unique player and he has been the architect behind a lot of good things for Leeds in the recent past. With his defensive nous and no-nonsense tackling, he does add protection for the backline while also aligning with Bielsa’s famous high pressing tactics.
It would be a challenge to replace Phillips but if there is anyone who is capable of replicating his influence, it has to be Kamara. Thus, Leeds should not hesitate to sign Kamara in the near future – even if it burns a hole in their pocket.
