Why Aaron Lennon to Leeds United will be a great move
The Sun has reported that Leeds United are looking at bringing old boy Aaron Lennon back to the club as they target a return to the Premier League in the summer. At the moment, the Peacocks are level on points with league leaders Norwich City and are only behind on goal difference, with them being among the bookies’ favourites to return to top-flight football. However, there is a vast difference in skill required, which is exactly why a move for Lennon makes sense.
The 31-year-old made his debut nearly 16 years ago for the Peacocks, becoming their youngster player when he walked out on the pitch for his first Premier League game. While a knee injury has ruled him out for the rest of this season, the speedster is still more than capable of playing top-flight football.
If nothing else, his ten-year spell at Tottenham showed exactly that with him making 364 appearances, arriving in north London from Elland Road. However, lack of game-time saw him move to Everton, where he stayed until losing his place and moving to Burnley.
While Lennon has had his issues with depression, the 31-year-old is clearly in a much better place now and for Leeds United, he could be a valuable signing once again. His pace and agility will prove to be more than a useful asset for the Peacocks on their potential return to the Premier League. More than that, it’s his experience and leadership that would play a key part.
If Leeds do get promoted, it is not going to be an easy return to top-flight action. If nothing else, they could look at how Fulham are struggling despite having spent over a £100million to try and stay in the league. However, it’s Lennon’s 372 Premier League appearances, that will become crucial when approaching key fixtures as the 31-year-old knows what to expect and thus can help the teammates.

Not to mention, his composure, skill and creativity in the final third will be more than what Marcelo Bielsa will expect. The winger does have a little under 18 months left on his current deal with Burnley and thus it will take a decent fee to get his services. But if the first-team football is promised, the player could accept a chance to again play for his boyhood club.
