Americans Taylor Fritz and Mackenzie McDonald will meet in the second round of the 2022 Korea Open on Thursday.
The 24-year-old made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time, where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in a phenomenal match. He followed it up with a quarterfinal appearance in the Dallas Open. Fritz stopped an in-form Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters to win his first title of the season. Fritz made it to the quarter-finals of the ATP Houston and the Monte-Carlo Masters.
He won his second title in 2022 after defeating compatriot Maxime Cressy in the Eastbourne International final. At Wimbledon, Fritz reached the quarterfinal stage at a major for the first time in his career. In the Cincinnati Masters, Fritz progressed to another quarterfinal.
The 27-year-old has not had a great season. He has reached the quarter-finals at only one tournament so far. He defeated Aslan Karatsev and Filip Krajinovic to progress to the quarter-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, before losing to Andrey Rublev.
McDonald made it to the third round of the French Open. Since the clay-court major, McDonald has not made it beyond the round of 16 in any competition. In the round of 32 of the Korea Open, McDonald defeated Pedro Martinez in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.
