Bryant was joined on the flight by his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna; John and Keri Altobelli and their daughter, Alyssa; Sarah Chester and her daughter, Payton; and Christina Mauser, an assistant coach. 

The helicopter involved in the crash – a Sikorsky S-76B – was the same chopper that brought Bryant to his final game with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2016.

Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and six others who left Orange County were travelling to the Mamba Sports Academy in Ventura County. Zobayan had flown Bryant along that route at least 10 times in 2019.

The pilot took the chopper further north because of low visibility that day. There was no sign of mechanical failure and the pilot was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to investigators.

Bryant and the passengers almost certainly were dead in an instant due to blunt trauma. The helicopter was flying at about 184 mph and descending at a rate of more than 4,000 feet per minute.

The autopsy spotted a tattoo of a crown on his right shoulder, above where his wife’s name, Vanessa, was written. The names of three of his four daughters: Bianka Bella, Natalia Diamante and Gianna Maria-Onore, the daughter who died with him were written on his other arm.

The death was one of the biggest shocks in the sporting world. There was a tribute in every NBA game for the legend, with his funeral attended by a huge gathering of people including former legends.

Bryant was one of the greatest to ever come up as a high school kid and make it big in the league. His legacy will never be tarnished and will always be a lesson to those who want to persevere in basketball.
