He attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Milwaukee and was one of the best players in his high school. He also bagged many awards. As a freshman playing college basketball with the UCLA Bruins, he earned second-team all-conference honours in the Pac-12 in 2015. After the season, he forwent his college eligibility and enter the 2015 NBA draft and was selected in the first round by Golden State with the 30th overall pick.
