Kamaru Usman is a Nigerian-American UFC star who competes in the Welterweight division. He previously held the divisional title.

The 36-year-old carries the nickname of The Nigerian Nightmare and has a great history of wrestling during his college days.

Usman also wrestled in the NCAA Division II for a few years and became champion in the 174 pounds division in 2010. He finished with an incredible record of 44-1.

He started off small as he pocketed $72,500 from his first UFC appearance on the Ultimate Fighter.

However, his first UFC fight after this saw him earn just $26,500. That amount kept steadily rising and his first six-figure fight payout was against Rafael Dos Anjos where he got $205,000. He made $380,000 in the win over Tyron Woodley and $590,000 after defeating Colby Covington.

Usman then made $640,000 as he kept his title against Jorge Masvidal. He then made an incredible $690,000 at UFC 258 where he defeated Gilbert Burns.

Usman faced Masvidal in a rematch at UFC 261 and beat Gamebred, where he pocketed $692,000.

For his fights against Leon Edwards, Usman earned over $500,000 for each fight.

He also won the Ultimate Fighter 21 Welterweight tournament. Usman’s only MMA loss came in his second fight at CFA 11 and currently, he is 20-3 in his career. But then, his first loss in the UFC came against Leon Edwards.

Usman also broke the record for most consecutive wins in the division which was held by Georges St-Pierre.

Kamaru Usman Family, wife and relationships

Kamaru Usman was born in Nigeria while his father was in the Nigerian Army and his mother was a teacher.

He has two brothers, Kashetu and Mohammed, the latter is also an MMA star. Usman’s father was the first to come to the United States and slowly and steadily he brought the rest of the family across to the States.

Muhammed Usman, Kamaru’s father, spent 10 years at the Seagoville Federal Correctional Institution on multiple counts of healthcare fraud.

His mother, Afishetu P. Usman, had to take care of the children during this time while Muhammed was expected to accompany his son for UFC 251 but the coronavirus pandemic cut short such plans.

Kamaru also is married and they have a daughter called Samirah, who was born in 2014. However, there isn’t much known about the wife of Kamaru Usman or his daughter.
