Davis was a basketball player at La Crosse Central High School located in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he achieved great success. As a freshman, he led his team to a Division 2 state championship victory. In his junior year, he averaged 23 points and 9 rebounds per game and was awarded the La Crosse Tribune Player of the Year award. He had an even more impressive senior year, averaging 27.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, earning the title of Wisconsin Mr Basketball and being named La Crosse Tribune Player of the Year for a second time.
He also holds the record for being the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,158 career points. He received offers from several colleges including Marquette, Iowa, and Minnesota, but ultimately committed to playing basketball at the University of Wisconsin. Additionally, Davis also played football for La Crosse Central as a quarterback.
In his senior year, he was honoured with the Large Schools First Team All-State award and was the recipient of the Dave Krieg Award, given to the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin.
