Chase, who was chosen by the Bengals with the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, was awarded the league’s offensive rookie of the year and made the second-team All-Pro after setting rookie records for receiving yards in a season and a game, which helped him qualify for the Super Bowl.

A suburb of New Orleans, Metairie, Louisiana, is home to Archbishop Rummel High School, where Chase attended. He amassed 2,152 yards and 30 touchdowns on 115 receptions during his career. Chase was the 84th overall recruit in the US and the number 15 receiving prospect when he graduated from high school. He was a four-star recruit. To play college football, Chase switched his commitment from the University of Kansas to Louisiana State University (LSU).

College life

Chase took part in all 14 games while a true freshman at LSU in 2018, starting eight of them. By season’s end, he had 23 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns.

With 1,780 yards on 84 catches (21.2 avg.) and 20 receiving touchdowns in 2019, Chase led the FBS in receiving yards after returning as a starter. He set a Southeastern Conference (SEC) record for receiving touchdowns with 20, which DeVonta Smith later surpassed.

He broke the 100-yard mark six times and the 200-yard mark three times, setting a record of 221 yards against Clemson in the College Football Playoff title game. NFL Career

Chase and his collegiate quarterback, Joe Burrow, were reunited when Chase was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals as the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He became the first player in the franchise’s history to wear the number 1, which was also his college uniform number. On June 2, 2021, Chase agreed to a $30.8 million, four-year rookie deal.

Chase played his first regular season game against the Minnesota Vikings on September 12, 2021, despite early preseason problems. He finished with 101 receiving yards and a score as the Bengals won 27-24 in overtime. After catching three more touchdown passes throughout his following two games, Chase became the youngest player in NFL history to catch four touchdown receptions in his first three career games. In the following three games, Chase amassed 220 receiving yards and four touchdowns, earning him the title of NFL Rookie of the Month for September.

Chase received another Rookie of the Week honor for his performance in the Bengals’ 25-22 overtime loss against the Green Bay Packers, when he had 159 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown at the end of the first half. Chase won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week title for the first time in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens, finishing with 201 receiving yards, including an 82-yard touchdown, in the Bengals’ 41-17 victory. His 754 receiving yards in his first seven career games set an NFL record for the most receiving yards by a player ever. The 2022 Pro Bowl was announced to have chosen Chase on December 22.

Chase had 266 receiving yards and three touchdowns in Week 17’s 34-31 division-clinching victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

He received his second award of the year as the AFC offensive player of the week. In addition to breaking the Bengals’ franchise record for receiving yards, Chase’s 266 yards also broke a rookie record for the most receiving yards in a game in the NFL. Before leaving the game in Week 18 against the Cleveland Browns, Chase had caught two catches for 26 yards, breaking Chad Johnson’s Bengals franchise record for the most receiving yards in a single season. Overall, Chase ended his first NFL regular season with 81 receptions for 1,455 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns, ranking fourth in the NFL (3rd).

Chase caught 10 passes for 129 yards and the score that tied the game with no time left in regulation in Week 1’s 23-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime.

Net worth and Salary

Depending on where a player is selected in the draft, rookie contracts are distributed differently, but as of August, estimates put the American’s net value at about $1 million.

Allegations of domestic violence offenses dogged chase during the off-season. But because they came out after the draft, they didn’t hurt his financial situation as they did for other athletes whose stories came out right before the draft.
