Manchester United player ratings vs Bournemouth

Marcus Rashford’s 92nd-minute winner guaranteed Manchester United all three points and propelled the Red Devils to 7th in the Premier League standings.

Bournemouth started the game brighter of the two teams and Ryan Fraser and Junior Stanislas failed to convert from close range before Callum Wilson finally gave the Cherries a much-deserved lead.

Jose Mourinho’s men fought back with Anthony Martial’s goal ten minutes before halftime and both the teams had plenty of opportunities to win the game in the second half. However, it was the visitors who had the final say in a tense and hard-fought encounter that must have had the fans at the edge of their seats.

Player Ratings

David De Gea (8/10)

The Spaniard was called into action far too often for his liking due to some shambolic defending and he saved the demise of his team on multiple occasions.

Ashley Young (6.5/10)

Played a part in the build-up to the first goal and shook the crossbar with a fantastic free-kick in the second half; not his best defensive performance as he was caught out multiple times by Bournemouth’s movement and passing down the flanks.

Chris Smalling (5.5/10)

Let Ryan Fraser run clear through on goal with a mistimed tackle and looked lost in a sea in the opening thirty minutes; lacked awareness and his positioning was poor, improved considerably in the second half.

Victor Lindelof (7/10)

His third good performance on a trot; was the pick of United’s backline, made some good challenges and looked comfortable in possession but lacked communication with his teammates.

Luke Shaw (6.5/10)

A decent performance by the Englishman. Was caught out of position occasionally but made some good overlapping runs and should have scored in the second half.

Nemanja Matic (6.5/10)

He looked good with his passing and distribution in the second half and made some crucial interceptions to break up the play; helped United gain control in the second half.

Juan Mata (6/10)

Not his best performance of the season. Made some good passes and tried to run behind the backline but lacked that final ball.

Fred (6/10)

Did not match the standards that he showed in the last game. Played some good passes and tried to help out the defence but wasn’t so influential.

Paul Pogba (7.5/10)

Put in the hard yards in the first half and tracked back to help out the defenders. A lot more influential in the second half where he linked-up the play and created chances; set up Rashford’s winner with a good cross from the left.

Anthony Martial (7.5/10)

Scored his fifth goal in the last four games with a clinical finish; arguably the best player in the final third and always posed a threat with his pace, movement and guile.

Alexis Sanchez (6.5/10)

Have to give him full credit for the tenacity he showed in winning the ball back in midfield for the first goal; assisted Martial for the equaliser and tried to make things happen in the final third.

Substitutes

Ander Herrera (6.5/10)

Added stability to United’s midfield with his sensible ball distribution and came close with two really good strikes from range.

Marcus Rashford (6.5/10)

Proved his worth as a super-sub. Tested the opposition with his blistering pace and kept his composure to get the all-important winner.

Jesse Lingard (5.5/10)

Had a good chance to win it late in the game but couldn’t get his finishing right.
