Why Huddersfield Town must go all out to sign Niko Hamalainen

According to a report by Examiner Live, Huddersfield Town are lining up a move to sign Queens Park Rangers star Niko Hamalainen once the transfer window reopens in January.

A defender by trade, the 22-year-old is currently serving a loan spell with Scottish outfit Kilmarnock. Since joining them, he has appeared 16 times so far this season. He has been rather consistent in his displays so far and it comes as no surprise that the Terriers are interested in his services.

Unfortunately for Hamalainen though, his stint at QPR has been rather lukewarm in comparison. Although he joined the club back in 2014, the youngster has only made 6 appearances for their first-team so far.

With his contract set to expire in the summer, Huddersfield Town would be wise to convince QPR to offload him on a cut-price deal. Instead of gathering dust at Loftus Road, Hamalainen would be better off joining Danny Cowley’s squad.

As far as the Terriers are concerned, they recently climbed up to 19th spot in the standings but that does not guarantee their safety. With the threat of relegation still looming large, Cowley would be wise to make a move for Hamalainen to boost his defensive forces.

In 21 games thus far, Huddersfield have already conceded a whopping 33 goals. To that end, the Finnish international would be a great addition since he can play at centre-back as well as left-back.

Both areas could use some reinforcing in the January transfer window and Cowley must not hesitate to sign Hamalainen on a cut-price deal. Given his positive performances for Kilmarnock, who are currently placed 5th in the Scottish Premiership standings, Huddersfield would bag a solid bargain

The club’s first priority must be to consolidate their Championship status and signing Hamalain would be a great move.

As far as the player is concerned, joining Huddersfield would provide him with a new lease of life to work wonders in England, thus making it a win-win situation for all parties involved.
