Two players Sheffield Wednesday can sign instead of Neeskens Kebano

According to the Star, Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have ended their interest in Fulham’s Neeskens Kebano. This comes after the player turned down the chance of dropping to the Championship in search of more playing time despite the clubs reaching an agreement.

Fulham have already strengthened the wide attacking areas during this transfer window by signing Ryan Babel from Besiktas. However, Kebano seems willing to fight his way into Claudio Ranieri’s team at Craven Cottage.

His pursuit is seemingly dead in the water. Here, we look at two players Sheffield Wednesday can sign instead of the DR Congo international.

Luke Freeman – Queens Park Rangers

QPR managed to hold onto their star man last summer amidst interest from rivals Middlesbrough. The Loftus Road side rejected bids as high as £5m. The 26-year-old midfielder has gone on to play in all of QPR’s 28 league games scoring six goals and assisting a further three goals.

Freeman has 18 months left on his current deal. The former England U17 international plays as a central attacking midfielder but he can also ply his trade on either flank.

It remains to be seen whether QPR would be willing to sell this window. Steve McClaren’s side are faced with a transfer embargo in the January window as a punishment for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

So their hands are tied down and there is also the issue of whether QPR would be willing to let their star player join a direct rival.

Adrien Hunou – Stade Rennais FC

Like Freeman above, Adrien Hunou is into the last 18 months of his contract at French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais. A natural central attacking midfielder, the 25-year-old can also play on either wing.

The former France U20 international, who rose up the rank at Stade Rennais’ academy, has struggled to break into the starting eleven this season. The Evry born midfielder has made just eight appearances across all competitions –  scoring three goals. This includes a goal from his four Ligue 1 appearances.

Hunou already has experience in both the French Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. He has made over 120 appearances for Clermont Foot and Stade Rennais. He has scored 24 goals club career goals and assisted a further nine goals. This highlights his driving influence from midfield.
