Forget it Silva – Everton could seriously derail their progress by signing this Premier League winner in January

Everton should avoid signing Yaya Toure at all costs and here is why

With 316 Premier League appearances for Manchester City, Yaya Toure won 8 major honours, with 3 Premier League titles and a PFA Player of the Year. A bonafide Manchester City legend, Kolo Toure’s younger brother might return to his old stomping grounds.

The 35-year-old was mutually released by former club Olympiakos and has already arrived in England ahead of a rumoured move, according to The Mirror.

With Everton looking to add more experience and firepower to their side, however, the burly Ivorian could be the wrong choice. Well past his prime, adding another ageing central midfielder could harm Marco Silva’s chances of a top-six finish.

The former Watford boss needs to add reinforcements both defensively and offensively to his team while aiming to close the gap between themselves and 6th place. While Toure would undoubtedly add experience and leadership to Everton, his age – and the fact that he is no longer his lethal self – may harm both parties.

The 35-year-old may not be able to cope up with the Premier League’s pace and physicality, even though those were key features of his Manchester City performances.

Everton, on the other hand, have the likes of Tom Davies, Gylfi Sigurdsson and many others to help their midfield battle, despite struggling over the last few weeks. Now with Andre Gomes’ resurgence at Merseyside, the Toffees don’t need someone else unless he is one for the future.

Targeting someone like Houssem Aouar, despite there being no links to Everton, would be a better option over Yaya Toure.

Another option could be buying Gones permanently. The 26-year-old has been crucial to Silva’s plans so far and will play an even bigger part going forward. But what they really need is a 20-plus goal forward, someone they can depend on instead of using Richarlison as a false nine.

Both Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have struggled to make an impact. If The toffees want things to change, they need to make smart singings. And to that end, bringing in a 35-year-old struggling star isn’t a smart move.
