Cameron Carter-Vickers should forget Ipswich and stay put at Swansea

According to TWTD, relegation-threatened Ipswich Town are interested in signing Cameron Carter-Vickers. The 20-year-old is on loan with Swansea City from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues need to strengthen their squad in January if they are to avoid the drop to the League One.

Centre-back Cameron Carter-Vicker spent an impressive spell with the Blues during the second half of last season. The USA international, capped six times, made 17 starts for the Portman Road side, helping them to a 12th place finish.

Ipswich Town were keen on bringing him straight back in for another loan spell in last summer. The 6ft 1in defender eventually joined the relegated Welsh side on a season-long loan. However, the Southend-born Carter-Vickers has found his opportunities limited at the Liberty Stadium.

He has been named in the starting line-up just four times and has made four further appearances off the substitutes bench. He has a total of just 414 minutes of action to his name this season. As was the case with his spell at Sheffield United in the first half of last season, Tottenham may feel his development would be more fruitful by sending him elsewhere in January.

Cameron Carter-Vickers’ chances at Spurs have been more limited with manager Mauricio Pochettino favouring other options. The emergence of Juan Foyth as the London club’s big prospect at centre-back means Carter-Vickers may have to look elsewhere for opportunities.

Swansea are currently 12th on the log with 32 points. Graham Potter’s side is just six points off sixth-placed Sheffield United, who occupy the last promotion playoff spot. It is safe to say that the Swans are not completely out of the promotion picture just yet. In fact, Carter-Vickers could still help the Welsh side to the promotion playoffs.

However, his CV would receive a massive boost if he can help the Tractor Boys escape relegation. His development as a youngster is important if he is to establish himself in Spurs’ first-team squad. But that said, Carter-Vickers should stay put at the Liberty Stadium for the time being and fight for a starting berth.
