The 29-year-old began her campaign at the WTA Finals against Coco Gauff. Garcia defeated the young American with ease. Garcia was outplayed in her following match against Iga Swiatek. In a vital encounter against Daria Kasatkina, Garcia managed to bounce back after losing the first set and pick up a much-needed win.

The Frenchwoman produced a scintillating display in the semifinals against Maria Sakkari and won the match 6-3, 6-2. Garcia was up against Aryna Sabalenka in the championship round of the tournament. The latter stopped Swiatek’s 15-match winning streak against top 10 players by defeating the Polish youngster in the semis.

Garcia and Sabalenka were tied 2-2 on the head-to-head going into the all-important final. Garcia’s calling card this season has been her serves. She has hit the most number of aces this season whereas Sabalenka has committed the most number of double faults.

Garcia cracked 11 aces in the match and 10 of them came in the first set. Sabalenka committed a total of 3 double faults and 2 of them came in the crucial first-set tiebreak. Another critical moment in the match came when Garcia broke Sabalenka’s first service game in the second set. The world No. 6 eventually won the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
