Alex Albon finished 10th at the Australian GP to earn the first points of the season for the Williams F1 team

Alex Albon put up a stellar show at the Albert Park Circuit to secure a P10 finish and earn the first points of the 2022 F1 season for himself and his team. Albon started the race on the 20th spot in the grid after being disqualified in the qualifying run. A jump of 10 spots for Albon was certainly one of the highlights of the Australian Grand Prix.

Albon stayed out of the safety car on the hards, running inside the top 10. The Williams’ driver’s impressive pace allowed him to stay ahead of Esteban Ocon and the other midfield runners before stopping on the final lap for soft tyres, coming out just ahead of Guanyu Zhou to seal the 10th spot.

Albon finished 13th in Bahrain but failed to register a timing in Jeddah. A top 10 finish in Melbourne will definitely be a major confidence booster for Albon and the Williams F1 team.

Where do things stand after the Australian Grand Prix?

The results at the Australian Grand Prix have caused a number of changes in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship Leaderboard.

After this race win in Melbourne, Ferrari further increase their lead with 104 points in their kitty ahead of Mercedes (65) and Red Bull (55). Leclerc gains 26 points from the race and cements his place at the top of the drivers’ championship leaderboard with a tally of 71 points. A second-place finish for Sergio Perez and a DNF for Max Verstappen means Perez leaps above his Red Bull team-mate to take fourth place in the standings. Mercedes’ George Russell is on the second spot with 37 points followed by Carlos Sainz (33).

Down the table, a first point for Williams means they move away from the bottom spot to take 9th place. Aston Martin have failed to register a single point so far and are placed bottom of the Constructors’ leaderboard.
In the drivers’ championship, a point for Alex Albon means he moves up to 16th, ahead of the bottom pack of Mick Schumacher, Lance Stroll, Sebastian Vettel and Nicholas Latifi – all of whom are on 0 points.
