Colombia is rumoured to be the likely destination for the Caribbean GP in 2024 or 2025
Colombia could potentially host the Caribbean GP in 2024/25 if the race is eventually included in the F1 calendar. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali visited Colombia recently to check the seaport city of Barranquilla as a potential race venue. The local government has been pushing hard for the race which will give a massive boost to their revenue and tourism. However, it remains to be seen if Domenicali and co. decide to include the Caribbean GP in an already-packed F1 calendar.
The Mayor of Barranquilla is confident that the city has the required infrastructure to host the race. After Domenicali’s visit, Mayor Jaime Pumarejo said: “The process is progressing favourably, but there is still a lot of work to be done. We are still there, that is to say, it is a real, palpable possibility; it is a financially sustainable project that brings investment to the city by being promoted by the private sector.” He further added, “It is not yet a reality, but we are in the race and we hope to reach the finish line. We don’t want to raise false expectations yet.” Meanwhile, a picture of the potential track layout of the Caribbean GP circuit has gone viral on the internet.
