F1 Fantasy picks this week for the Spanish GP

After five enthralling races so far in F1 2022, we look at the potential fantasy game-changers in Barcelona

We had a roller-coaster start to the season but we finally seem to have some stability going into the Spanish Grand Prix. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc seem to be the reliable duo up top and the more this season progresses, it’s becoming more like a two-horse race.

Lewis Hamilton’s performances have really affected fantasy teams. Hamilton has been a part of most of our fantasy teams and after back to back underwhelming performances in Jeddah and Bahrain, he showed some promise finishing fourth in Melbourne. However, he fell outside the top 10 to finish 13th in Imola. Is a 6th place finish in Miami good enough for us to keep faith in him or is it time to replace him?

Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc – who should be the No. 1 pick? Which constructor seems to be the safest bet going forward – Ferrari or Mercedes or Red Bull? We have got the answers you’re looking for and we’re back after a break with your weekly dose of F1 Fantasy!

Either Verstappen or Leclerc is a must in your team. Kevin Magnussen started as a great budget pick with the Haas driver following up his P5 finish with a P9 in Saudi Arabia. However, there seems to be a dip in form and you might have to look for alternative options like Esteban Ocon. George Russell has been consistent and is a reliable pick going forward. Ferrari certainly is the safest bet when it comes to the single constructor slot with Mercedes clearly struggling and Red Bull has catch up to do.

What should be the strategy going forward?

You will get three free substitutions ahead of the Grand Prix. Use them to bring in drivers you feel will do well in Barcelona. If you don’t have Leclerc yet, just get him in! Verstappen or Leclerc is a must in your team and you can build your team around them. If that requires you to remove Lewis Hamilton, we would suggest you to go ahead and do that. Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez or George Russell are potentially good picks as a cover for your marquee driver.

For the Spanish GP specifically, do keep your eyes on Fernando Alonso as a potential option. The home favourite is our wildcard pick of the week.

Is it time yet to use your powerups or streak? Our answer is a ‘No’. Save it for the future, it’s a marathon not a sprint.

The most important part – Remember to save and submit your teams before deadline which is the qualifying on Saturday evening.
