The 2023 F1 calendar will feature 23 races and is scheduled to begin in March
The Formula 1 calendar for the 2023 season has now been officially announced and approved by the World Motor Sport Council. The season starts in Bahrain on March 5 and ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 26. It will feature a record 23 as the Chinese Grand Prix has been removed due to the threat of Covid-19 pandemic.
The Formula One World Championship in 2023 will be the 74th edition of the event. The Qatar Grand Prix is scheduled to return to the calendar, after being last held in 2021. The Las Vegas Grand Prix is set to make its debut, with the race planned to be held on a new street track across the Las Vegas Strip. Unfortunately, the historic French Grand Prix will not feature in the 2023 calendar.
What are the other highlights in the 2023 F1 calendar?
The other important change in the calendar comes in the format of the races – Sprint. There will be six sprint races this season compared to three in 2021 and 2022. It is due to take place in Azerbaijan, Austrian, Belgian, Qatar, United States and São Paulo Grand Prix. The traditional summer break remains in August, but the Belgian GP moves to the end of July just after the Hungarian GP. The Dutch GP is twinned with Italy after the restart.
The new season of Formula One is about four months away, but teams already seem to have completed their drivers’ line up for 2023. The 2023 F1 grid will see several new faces while we will certainly miss four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, who retired at the end of 2022 season. However, fans will certainly be excited to see the three new debutants – Nyck de Vries (Alpha Tauri), Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and Logan Sargeant (Williams).
