Lando Norris finished third in the 2021 F1 Austrian GP and won the Driver of the Day

Lando Norris secured another podium finish at the F1 Austrian GP, something that he is making a habit.

The British star started the race in second place and had a great start but a safety car undid a lot of his good work.

He was challenged by Sergio Perez at the restart and he pushed the Red Bull star off track. That handed him a five-second penalty and it dropped him to fourth after his only pit stop of the race.

Many would have expected the McLaren of Norris to lose out and fall behind the Red Bull and Mercedes pair, however, he kept the pressure on Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton picked up a problem and Mercedes decided to switch him to third position and put Bottas ahead. Norris was able to overtake Hamilton and kept chasing Bottas, however, he just was not able to get his best finish in F1.

Lando Norris wins Driver of the Day

Norris was happy finished third but he was unhappy with the penalty. He won the Driver of the Day award and constantly said that he should have ended the face ahead of Bottas and behind Verstappen.

The penalty did seem harsh as 31% of the fans voted Norris as the Driver of the Day in the 2021 Austrian GP.

Perez, for his part, got two five-second penalties for basically doing the same thing that Norris did.

The Mexican finished in fifth place on track but he was shunted to sixth after 10 seconds were added to his finishing time.

Norris still had a lot to celebrate and there is no doubt, there is more to come from him and McLaren.
