Why Everton should keep hold of Ademola Lookman

According to CalcioMercato, Italian giants AC Milan have made Everton winger Ademola Lookman a top target for the summer. Milan were priced out of a move for Gerard Deulofeu by fellow Premier League club Watford, who demanded €30 million for the former Barcelona winger.

Everton signed Lookman for £11 million in January 2017 from League One side Charlton Athletic. The then 19-year-old signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club as he became the most expensive signing from League One. With just four starts in his first year at the Goodison, Lookman joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on loan in January 2018.

The 21-year-old made a huge impact in the German top flight on debut by scoring the winner against Borussia Mönchengladbach. He ended his loan spell after scoring five goals and assisting thrice in just seven starts for the club.

On his return to Everton, the Englishman hasn’t had the game time he would’ve wished for. Lookman has made 14 appearances in the Premier League this season, 11 of which have been from off the bench. Everton are currently ninth in the league with 13 games left and manager Marco Silva will be hoping for a top-seven finish in order to secure a spot in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

Lookman was a part of England’s triumph in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup where he scored three goals for the Three Lions. The former Charlton man played on the left wing in the tournament where his ability to drift wide and cut inside of the opposing backline proved incredibly effective.

Standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall, Lookman uses his low centre of gravity along with his quick feet, frightening pace and agility to run at and get away from defenders before setting up a chance for himself or a teammate. The 21-year-old provided great balance on the left side for England where he showed surprising willingness to track back and help out the defence, a trait every manager wants from a wide player.

Record signing Richarlison has been pushed up top which leaves Everton with just Theo Walcott and Bernard on the wing. Losing Lookman Looking will prove to be a massive blow for the Merseysiders and will leave them frighteningly short of depth on the flanks.

With the right management and a proper mentality along with his exceptional talent, Ademola Lookman can do great things for Everton in the coming years and the club should do everything to keep him at Goodison Park.
