Wilder is one of the rare athletes who entered the professional boxing scenes after having made his name in the Olympics. Having won Bronze in the Beijing Games in 2008, the 34-year-old made his pro-boxing debut in the same year against Ethan Cox.

In 2015, Wilder won the WBC Heavyweight title, defeating Bermane Stiverne. In doing so, he became the first American world heavyweight champion in nine years, which was the longest period of time in boxing history without an American heavyweight champion.

He went on to defend the title against the likes of Eric Molina, Chris Arreola, Gerald Washington and Luis Ortiz. His winning streak was brought to a halt by Tyson Fury in 2018, with their bout ending in a draw. He then went on to defeat Dominic Breazeale and Luis Ortiz last year.
