UFC legend Daniel Cormier has weighed in on Jorge Masvidal allegedly attacking Colby Covington at a restaurant after their fight at UFC 272 earlier this month.

Daniel Cormier has been in a few blockbuster fights and some epic rivalry throughout his time in the UFC. However, the former two-division champion believes that beef between fighters must remain within the limits of the Octagon.

On Thursday, it was announced that Jorge Masvidal was arrested for attacking Colby Covington at a restaurant in Miami, Florida. ‘Gamebred’ was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief for striking Covington in the face twice.

The two had their beef for a while but had a chance to settle it in the Octagon earlier this month at UFC 272. While Covington eventually came out victorious after, the two still seemed to have animosity for one another despite going five rounds in the cage. Covington and Masvidal were involved in a physical tussle on Monday night at a restaurant in Miami. It eventually led to the latter being arrested.

Daniel Cormier opens up on Masvidal’s assault on Covington

While speaking on The DC & RC Show, Daniel Cormier hit out at Masvidal for attacking Covington. He stressed the fact that Masvidal had the chance to end his beef with Covington inside the cage.

Here’s the thing, a lot of these altercations happen prior to the fights happening. And we were always very clear with each other. When you got 25 minutes, right? You got 25 minutes. That is the only place in which I’m going to condemn Jorge Masvidal. You had 25 minutes less than two weeks ago to do anything you wanted,” said Cormier.

DC also hit out at Covington for claiming that he was the ‘king of Miami’ and ‘made for the streets’. Cormier explained, “Colby Covington is not a street guy. Colby Covington is a guy who likes to talk and fight. The shtick may have crossed the line, and now it’s gotten him into a situation that he is not really equipped for. That is why he didn’t have anyone in place with him to make sure that it didn’t cross the line.”

The public brawl is clearly not a good look for the two welterweight fighters, who used to be best friends before their relationship turned sour.
