Confirmed Tottenham XI to face Barcelona: Winks to start, Dier benched

Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Spanish giants Barcelona to Wembley in what promises to be an exciting Champions League group stage clash. Spurs made an underwhelming start to their European exploits by going down 2-1 to Inter Milan in the first game.

However, they must aim to pick up all 3 points tonight since they will have the added advantage of playing at home. The likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli won’t be a part of the matchday squad due to injuries. As expected, Mauricio Pochettino did make a few changes to the starting XI.

Harry Winks played a key role in Tottenham’s successes against Real Madrid last season and now, it is exciting to see him in the starting line-up. The midfield battle will be crucial and the youngster must be at his best to keep Barcelona’s powerhouses at bay.

Joining Winks will be Victor Wanyama in the midfield. Eric Dier has been named as a substitute on the bench and it remains to be seen how the two partner each other.

As far as the attacking unit is concerned, Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son have all been included and so has the talismanic Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, Hugo Lloris is back in the net and Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies will take up the full-back spots. Toby Alderweireld will partner Davinson Sanchez in the heart of the midfield.

All in all, this looks like a solid team but can they stand strong against a formidable Barcelona unit?
