Coco Gauff pulled off a shock win over Naomi Osaka in the third round of the Australian Open
Coco Gauff continued her march in the Australian Open by defeating defending champion Naomi Osaka.
The 15-year-old sent shock waves in the world of Tennis with her win as she dumped out the 22-year-old Osaka.
This isn’t the first Grand Slam for the rising teen as she played Osaka in last year’s US Open. The Japanese got the better of her then, but this was a different story.
Osaka claimed in her post-match press conference that Gauff was more aggressive in this meeting, and the American was great on her serves too.
Gauff had a first serve percentage of 75% and won 90% of her second serve points. That was something a reporter highlighted in the post-match press conference, but the American claimed that there was no real tactic in place against Osaka:
“I just wanted to get my first serve on the court, that was the main thing. Target wise, I wasn’t really like tactic to where I should serve against her.
“I never really picked when I’m served like before my match, my coaches don’t really tell me where to serve on a fore or backhand because in the moment I just serve wherever I want and what I feel.”
Gauff finished by saying she was great with her first serves and had a high percentage and she also won most of her second serve points.
Gauff in shock over win
The Tennis world might have been shocked with the win and so was Gauff. The 15-year-old was in “disbelief” after defeating the defending champion and claimed she was enjoying the moment.
Gauff didn’t speak much about her chances of winning the crown but she beat Venus Williams, and Serena Williams was also knocked out.
