Why Kai Havertz will be a good signing for Chelsea

According to The Athletic (h/t Daily Mirror), Chelsea have shown interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

The 20-year-old German is one of the most sought-out youngsters in Europe with a host of top clubs waiting in queue for his signature. Havertz, a Leverkusen academy graduate, has been impressive this season, scoring 6 goals and giving 5 assists from 22 Bundesliga appearances.

The versatile Havertz also showcased his potential with three goals and two assists from just three games for Leverkusen in the Europa League this term. The young attacking midfielder is currently his side’s second-highest goal scorer and assists provider in the league at the moment. However, this is not the first time Havertz has come under the radar due to his standout displays on the pitch.

Havertz enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, scoring 20 goals and providing 7 assists from 42 games for the German side.

Versatile Havertz can offer Chelsea plenty of options

Despite the side putting up a good show, Lampard would be aware that the side needs some established stars in order to move forward further.

What makes Havertz even more special is his ability to play anywhere in the midfield. The German is also a good winger, having played there on numerous occasions for Leverkusen in the past.

Out of his 34 matches for Leverkusen this season, Havertz has featured 18 times as an attacking midfielder, 10 times on the right flank, and three times as a striker.

Moreover, with Chelsea wingers Willian and Pedro’s current contract set to expire this summer, Chelsea’s interest in Havertz makes sense. Hence, Chelsea should try their best to land the versatile and talented youngster sooner than later.

Verdict

A proven customer and Leverkusen regular, there is no questioning young Havertz’s talent. Also, his ability to adapt to any role makes him a valuable asset for any side, not just Chelsea. With Willian and Pedro’s future at the club remaining an uncertainty, Chelsea can finally land a viable replacement for the veteran wingers.
