Why Chelsea should forget about allowing Andreas Christensen to leave
AC Milan are in the market for a defender and have been linked with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, according to Skysports.
AC Milan are short of defenders and the only available centre back is Zapata after the injuries of Romagnoli, Caldara and Musacchio. Andreas Christensen has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season. The Danish centre-back has not played in the Premier League for some weeks and is clearly not favoured by Lampard.
The Italian club are keen to bolster their defence this month after a disappointing start to the season. They are currently sat 12th in Serie A with a goal difference of minus eight. To that end, Christensen is capable of being a long-term solution to the club’s defensive woes.
Chelsea currently have three centre-backs ahead of Christensen in the pecking order. Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, and Antonio Rudiger are all more preferable choices for Lampard. The Dane may seek a move elsewhere to secure regular first-team action.
With two-and-a-half-years years left on his contract and soon turning 24, Christensen could be at yet another crossroads. He has already had experience away from London on loan at Mönchengladbach between 2015 and 2017.
He was ever-present in Chelsea’s Europa League-winning campaign last season, he’s started just 12 Premier League games in the last 12 months, falling firmly to fourth-choice under Frank Lampard. The 23-year-old has not featured in the Premier League for Chelsea since early December but was handed a place in the Blues’ starting XI against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Verdict
Christensen has struggled for game time this season but Rudiger is just back from an injury and Tomori is still inexperienced. Losing Christensen would leave the Blues thin on the ground at the back. One injury could cause Lampard real problems, especially if he continues to utilise the 3-4-3 formation.
The Blues will want to keep hold of the 23-year-old unless they sign another defender in the January window. He is still young and will improve both physically and tactically. There is no need to sell Christensen and Chelsea should only sanction the move if he is desperate to go.
