Why Celtic should revive their interests in Shon Weismann

The Daily Record have opined that Celtic should once again revive their interests in Wolfsberger striker Shon Weismann.

Back in January, Celtic were linked with a move for the in-form Israeli forward. However, a deal never materialised as the Scottish giants settled for Poland international Patryk Klimala for a sum of £3.5million. Meanwhile, it has been an impressive season for the Hoops so far, with the side currently on top of the league table and 13 points ahead of second-placed Rangers.

One of the reasons for Celtic’s dominant display in the league has been due to the form of their French striker Odsonne Edouard. The 22-year-old has been in sensational form since his arrival from PSG in the summer of 2018.

The young forward has scored a whopping 21 goals from his 27 league matches and has undoubtedly been the Hoops’ best player this season. However, his eye-catching displays have garnered a lot of attention with a few Premier League clubs being linked with the in-form man.

Apart from Edouard, Celtic have two more established strikers in their ranks – seasoned campaigner Leigh Griffiths and newcomer Klimala. Though Griffiths still seems to be in good form, netting nine goals from 21 games, he clearly is not at his peak and will turn 30 this August.

Klimala, on the other hand, has just arrived and is yet to impress. The young Pole has not opened his account and has featured just two times for the Scottish side so far. Having said that, Celtic really need another consistent goal-scorer up front if they wish to stay on top in the long run and Weismann, considering his current form, would be a perfect fit there.

The 24-year-old striker is an adept finisher and has scored a whopping 22 goals from 21 games. He has been instrumental in upstarts Wolfsberger’s impressive run to fourth place in the league this season.

He has scored the bulk of their overall 50 league goals this season and has played in 21 of their total 22 matches in the Austrian league.

Verdict

With in-form Edouard attracting interest from clubs abroad, Celtic will definitely need an established striker for the future. Having impressed in his maiden season, Weismann would thus be a perfect replacement if Edouard decides to move elsewhere.

Given his form and finishing skills, the already talented Weismann could be a great addition to the Celtic line-up.
