Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Timothy Weah can fire Celtic to the title

According to Sky Sports, Celtic have completed the signing of Ivorian international forward Vakoun Issouf Bayo from Slovakian club Dunajska Streda, subject to a work permit and medical.

The Bhoys have also secured the services of exciting PSG youngster Timothy Weah on a six-month loan deal, claims Sky Sports.

It has been a busy January transfer window for Celtic so far, with Brendan Rodgers looking to bolster his attacking options. The Hoops suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of archrivals Rangers in the Old Firm derby before the winter break and Steven Gerrard’s side currently sit level on points with Celtic atop the Scottish Premiership standings. However, the Bhoys have a game in hand, giving them a slight advantage over their closest title contenders.

As things stand, the title race is still open and Celtic will have to fight tooth and nail to get their hands on the coveted trophy. While they have had a good season so far, Rodgers have found himself short of cover in the attacking third at times, with Odsonne Edouard left as the only option up front following Leigh Griffiths’ decision to take time away from the game to solve personal issues.

Edouard, 20, has shouldered his responsibilities quite well, scoring 9 goals from 18 appearances in the Premiership. However, he is still young to fire Celtic to the title single-handedly. Furthermore, he has been outscored by Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos.

And that is exactly the reason why the acquisition of Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo should be an exciting proposition for the Celtic fans. Both of them are immensely talented attackers who can bolster the team’s attacking options and add that cutting edge to their game in the final third.

Issouf Bayo,22, has been in tremendous form for Dunajska Streda this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 7 assists from 23 appearances in the Slovakian top flight. Weah, on the other hand, has struggled to break into PSG’s first-team plans due to the presence of stalwarts like Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani.

Now, the big question is- what would these two attackers bring into Celtic’s forward line? And whether Rodgers would be able to accommodate both of them in the first team.

Bayo, who has been capped twice by Ivory Coast at the senior international level, is a fast and agile striker who is known for his poaching abilities. He is someone who can hold on to the ball and bring others into play, while he also keeps lurking in and around the penalty area to pounce on any half chance that comes his way.

Weah is a technically gifted and tactically versatile attacker who can play anywhere in the attacking third. Essentially a centre-forward by trade, he is better off playing on the flanks as a wide forward, which allows him to bring his pace and dribbling skills into play. Blessed with a good turn of pace and instant acceleration, Weah can leave the defenders for dead with his clever changes of direction.

Although he is a forward, his ability to create goals with pinpoint crosses is his greatest asset. The 18-year-old has an extremely cool head on his shoulders, showing a level of composure in crunch situations that is unusual to see amongst players of his age. Furthermore, he has got the presence of mind, awareness and the vision to play inch-perfect through balls to his teammates.

Rodgers will have the luxury using Bayo to provide cover and competition for Edouard while Weah, with his versatility, can be a massive boost to Celtic’s team dynamics.

Celtic getting their hands on Bayo and Weah can be considered as their answer to Rangers’ acquisition of Jermain Defoe. The Bhoys have taken a step in the right direction by adding more firepower to their attack and they now look like a formidable unit who can beat their rivals to the Scottish Premiership crown.
