Can Premier League winner Victor Moses re-ignite Cardiff City’s season?

Newcomers Cardiff City have struggled in their first season back in the Premier League, having won only five out of their 21 games so far. While this is down to a myriad of reasons, one of the main ones is Cardiff’s defensive issues, which has given them the second-worst defence. Having conceded 41 goals, it will take a long time to fix that issue but the Bluebirds need to bring in reinforcements.

According to Wales Online, Victor Moses could be that man. The English news outlet has reported that the Bluebirds want to bring in the Chelsea outcast to help them move forward. With Moses having made only two Premier League appearances off the bench this season, the 28-year-old could be interested. For Cardiff City, things could get worse as the Sun has revealed that both Fulham and Crystal Palace are also in the race.

For Neil Warnock and company, this simply means that they will have to act fast to get the signature of an experienced Premier League star, someone they desperately need. Not to mention, Moses’s versatility to play as a right-back, right-wing back or a winger would make him a valuable asset for any side.

The 28-year-old’s abilities were on show during Antonio Conte’s reign as Moses sped up and down the right-hand side covering more distance than any other player. However, things weren’t always good for Moses. Before Conte arrived, the Nigerian international was sent on loan to three different sides and after Conte left, things’ haven’t changed.

This season has seen Moses playing just 26 minutes in the Premier League, 49 minutes in the Europa League and he has started just one game in the EFL Cup. It doesn’t look like this situation will change as Maurizio Sarri prefers a 4-3-3, making it tough for the 28-year-old to play as a right-back or a winger.

For Cardiff City, however, given the fact that Chelsea wants only £12 million for the Nigerian, it represents a bargain deal.

But that’s only if they make a move. With Jazz Richards and Lee Peltier struggling, Neil Warnock has been forced to use centre-back Bruno Manga as a make-shift right-back. Bringing in Moses would not only strengthen the squad but also add a highly-experienced Premier League star, who could even inject a bit of creativity into their side.
