Burnley Opinion: Why the Clarets should make a move for Dimitris Pelkas?

Burnley have endured a season full of struggles but now, they find themselves safe from the relegation zone.

Regardless of how they end the 2018/19 campaign, Burnley need reinforcements. They might have clicked going forward lately but the fact is Dyche’s side desperately lacks a creative midfielder.

The Clarets’ inability to score goals regularly is something of a surprise, given they have Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, Matej Vydra and the veteran Peter Crouch. A prolific goalscorer is an absolute necessity for the Lancashire outfit before the next season.

Nevertheless, Dyche should also target a creative midfielder and PAOK Dimitris Pelkas would be an ideal fit at Turf Moor.

A product of the PAOK youth system, Dimitris Pelkas made his debut for the club back in 2012. Loan spells to Apollon Kalamarias and Vitoria Setubal helped him earlier in his career and currently he’s one of the PAOK’s stars.

The Greek international, 25, is an attacking midfielder by trade but he is adept at playing on either wing as well. Pelkas likes to control the proceedings from an advanced role with his passing range and can split open defences with his creativity and incisive through balls in the final third.

A set-piece expert, the 25-year-old is quick, creative and diligent, whilst also a clinical finisher in front of goal. He would bring a much-needed creative spark and invention to Burnley’s attack.

Pelkas’ trickery and skill on the ball allows him to get out of tight spaces with ease and thanks to his burst of acceleration, he cannot be caught when free. What stands out for the Greek is his ability to pick the right pass in the attacking third and selfless attitude.

Conclusion

Burnley, with their dire need for a creative playmaker should make a move for Pelkas before somebody else takes notice of his fine form in the Greek Superliga. Signing the talented Greek would represent a massive coup for the Clarets.
