Why Burnley should refrain from signing Seny Dieng
According to a report from Football Insider (h/t Birmingham Live), Burnley are among a number of clubs interested in signing QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng in the summer.
Born in Switzerland, Dieng started out at FC Red Star Zurich before joining the academy of Grasshoppers. Having progressed through the ranks, the custodian never made a first-team appearance, before joining German club MSV Duisburg in February 2016. Six months later, Dieng joined QPR.
The 25-year-old is yet to make his first-team debut for QPR. During his time at the club, he has spent time on loan at Whitehawk, Stevenage, Dundee FC and more recently at Doncaster Rovers. Dieng spent the first half of the 2019/20 season on loan with Doncaster, before returning to QPR in January. He made 27 appearances, keeping nine clean sheets.
Burnley, meanwhile, have recovered well from a jittery start to the 2019/20 campaign. The Clarets were 10th in the table when the season got suspended. They are currently on a 7-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League.
Usually one of the most rigid defences in the Premier League, Burnley have conceded 40 goals in 29 matches this season. In comparison, they had conceded 45 goals in the entirety of the 2018/19 campaign, while they had let in just 39 in 2017/18.
Do Burnley need a new goalkeeper?
Reinforcements in defence is something that manager Sean Dyche should consider. However, a new goalkeeper doesn’t seem like a necessary requirement at the time for the Clarets.
True that Joe Hart and Adam Legzdins are out of contract at the end of the season. However, in Nick Pope, Burnley have one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League. The Englishman has kept 11 clean sheets this season, which is the second-best tally in the competition.
Along with Pope, Burnley also have Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who they signed only last summer from Leeds United. The 23-year-old is yet to make his debut for the Clarets. But he is highly-rated, having impressed during his time at Leeds as well as the Northern Ireland national team.
Hence, given that the club has two young and talented goalkeepers, investing in another one doesn’t make much sense at the moment. So they should not sign Seny Dieng this summer.

Verdict
Given that they have two quality goalkeepers in Nick Pope and Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Burnley should stay away from investing in Dieng this summer. Instead, they should look to strengthen other areas of the pitch that need immediate reinforcements.
