In a surprising turn of events, Borg retired from tennis in 1981, abruptly ending his career at the age of 25. He later made a brief and unsuccessful comeback in 1991.

In 1976, Borg began a relationship with Romanian tennis professional Mariana Simionescu, and they married in Bucharest on July 24, 1980. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce in 1984. Borg became a father when he had a son named Robin in 1985 with the Swedish model Jannike Björling, who later became a grandmother in 2014. In 1989, Borg tied the knot with Italian singer Loredana Bertè, and their marriage lasted until 1993. On June 8, 2002, he married his third wife, Patricia Östfeld, and they have a son named Leo, born in 2003, who also pursued a career in professional tennis.
