Bill Walton is a retired American professional basketball player. Walton was born on November 5, 1952, in La Mesa, California, United States. He attended Helix High School in California, where he played basketball and won state championships. Walton went on to play college basketball at UCLA, where he won two national championships and was a three-time NCAA Player of the Year. In 1974, Walton was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers as the first overall pick in the NBA draft.

He played for the Portland Trail Blazers, San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers, and Boston Celtics during his NBA career. Walton won two NBA championships, one with the Trail Blazers in 1977 and another with the Celtics in 1986. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and the 1978 NBA MVP. Walton was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. He was named to the NBA’s 50th and 75th anniversary teams.
