Following his draft pick in the year 2016 by the 76ers, Simmons did not feature even in a single game during the 2016-17 season because of a nasty foot injury.
He healed completely and returned strongly, the next season. He started 81 games for the 76ers that year and helped them reach the Eastern Conference Semi-finals in the 2017-18 season.
The Boston Celtics eliminated the 76ers. Simmons averaged 15.8 points per game that year, with an average of 8.2 assists per game. His performances earned him the Rookie of the Year award.
