Manchester United player ratings vs Chelsea: Who impressed?

Ross Barkley’s 96th-minute equaliser held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw as the Red Devils were denied their first win at Stamford Bridge in over six years.

Chelsea had the upper hand in the first half and the Blues soon turned their territorial domination into a goal. Antonio Rudiger lost his marker Paul Pogba and headed it in from Willian’s corner to put Chelsea in the driver’s seat in the 20th-minute.

United looked like a completely different side in the second half, particularly in the way they pressed the opposition in the midfield and turned the tie on its head. The Red Devils found the equaliser in the 55th-minute courtesy of Anthony Martial’s close-range effort before the Frenchman put the visitors in a shock lead at the 73rd-minute, finishing Juan Mata’s perfectly crafted move from the right.

It looked as if United were set for a massive win but Barkley’s equaliser followed by some bizarre incidents off the field ended the match on a highly dramatic note.

David De Gea (7/10)

Looked calm and confident between the sticks; not at fault for the headed goal and did brilliantly to keep out a vicious effort from N’Golo Kante.

Ashley Young (5/10)

Had a tough time against Eden Hazard and was exposed multiple times by the subtle movement of the attackers in the final third, did not do much up front either.

Victor Lindelof (6/10)

A better display by the Swedish international on his return to the line-up; lost his man at times but did a decent job overall.

Chris Smalling (7/10)

Another good day for him; stood tall and powerful amidst the attackers and made some good blocks and interceptions.

Luke Shaw (6.5/10)

Decent day at the office for the England international; solid at the back barring a couple of slip-ups against Willian and provided impetus to the attacks with his crosses.

Paul Pogba (6.5/10)

His lapse of concentration led to Rudiger’s goal but he looked more adventurous in the second half and helped his team regain authority in the midfield.

Nemanja Matic (6/10)

Looked a bit off the pace against Eden Hazard and received a booking but did a fairly decent job with his marking; chipped in with some good interceptions.

Juan Mata (7/10)

Showed some lovely touches in the first half but sat back way too deep inside his own half and did not get enough support; completely different player in the second half as he drove forward with pace and had that creative influence on the proceedings.

Marcus Rashford (6.5/10)

He had a decent game but let himself down at times with some heavy touches and poor decision making; set up Martial for the second goal.

Anthony Martial (9/10)

Arguably United’s standout performer of the day; Showed a lot of endeavour and energy throughout the game and gave his team a lot of hope.]
