Why Aston Villa should sign Pedro from Chelsea

According to The Sun, Dean Smith is plotting a bargain deal for Pedro, who has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea.

The 32-year-old has started just one game in the last few weeks and a move away from Stamford Bridge would be ideal for Pedro. Villa could use an intelligent and versatile attacker like him and he would be a superb signing with his pace and flair.

He has won several trophies throughout his career and his winning mentality and experience would prove to be priceless for Dean Smith. After all, has won the Premier League with Chelsea.

Aston Villa spent a lot of money on new players earlier this year, meaning they might not spend heavily in January. A purchase like Pedro would make a lot of sense.

The 32-year-old will be a free agent at the end of this season and it would be better for Chelsea to cash in on him this January.

As far as Villa are concerned, they need attacking reinforcements and a winger should be their top priority. To that end, Pedro fits the bill perfectly. In addition, with John Terry as assistant manager, Villa may well have the upper hand while dealing with Chelsea.

Villa did sign Jota, Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi over the summer but Jota hasn’t really impressed since arriving and the other two have blown hot and cold. Smith has ended up using Jack Grealish out wide, thus epitomizing the need for a new winger.

In their quest to remain in the Premier League after getting promoted, Villa splashed out huge amounts of money in summer and signed players like Tom Heaton, Matt Targett, Marvelous Nakamba, Douglas Luis, Jota and striker Wesley.

They also signed Tyrone Mings and Anwar El Ghazi permanently, both of whom were on loan last season. But Villa have struggled to score from open play this term. The flanks have been a major of concern, as the wingers have failed to produce the goods on a consistent basis. Wesley has been isolated in most of the games and his services have not been utilized to the fullest.

In Grealish, McGinn, Hourihane and Douglas, Villa have tremendous depth in the centre of the park. Each player is capable of running the show and an experienced winger is the call of the hour for Villa.

Grealish, in particular, has been the enforcer for Villa this season. Signing a winger capable of putting in a shift must be the first thing on Dean Smith’s mind and come January, the Villans must prioritize this position if they want to stay up in the English top tier.

Verdict

Aston Villa need attacking reinforcements and they would be able to offer Pedro the regular minutes he has lacked this season.

Also, Pedro is a serial title-winner, with 5 La Ligas and 3 Champions League trophies in Spain. He further added 3 more to his tally at Chelsea. Although he might be past his best, signing him for a cut-price deal would be one of the best bargains of the season.
