Why Wilfried Zaha would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal

According to Express, former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has urged Mikel Arteta to sign Wilfried Zaha. The Crystal Palace forward was a target for the Gunners back in 2019 but they baulked at the asking price and went for Nicolas Pepe instead.

Wilfried Zaha is a 27-year-old Ivory Coast forward who currently plays for Crystal Palace. He started his youth career at Palace back in 2004. In 2010, he broke into the senior side and went on to make close to 150 appearances in three seasons. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last ever signing as Manchester United manager, as Zaha made the switch to Old Trafford. However, even before he could get a look in, he was loaned out to Cardiff City. Zaha made just 4 appearances for the Red Devils. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The winger finally returned to Selhurst Park in 2014, initially on loan, but the deal was made permanent in the subsequent January window. Since then, he has made 227 appearances for Palace, scoring 44 goals and providing 44 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Zaha had a choice between England and Ivory Coast, to represent internationally. Despite playing in the youth teams for England and a couple of friendlies for the senior side, he opted to represent his country of birth, Ivory Coast. He has made 18 appearances so far and scored 5 goals.

Zaha could be the solution to Arsenal’s attacking problems

If one were to compare the Arsenal of now to the one from maybe 3-4 years ago, there is a stark difference in how they play. There is hardly any of that fluid passing or slick goalscoring. The team is not getting results and looks entirely out of touch. They may have found a bit of defensive solidity but it has come at the cost of their attacking output.

Their entire attacking unit of Aubameyang, Pepe, Lacazette and Willian has underwhelmed in an epic way. It is no surprise that David Seaman has asked the club to sign a prolific forward like Zaha. A forward who can play anywhere across the frontline, his introduction from the left would free up Aubameyang to play in a No.9 role.

Despite Palace struggling, the Ivorian has been in excellent form this season too with 5 goals and 2 assists in just 8 games. He has spoken about leaving the club on many occasions and Arsenal would be unwise to not act on that factor.
