Arsenal should go all out to sign Suso ahead of the upcoming season

According to the Sun (h/t tuttomercatoweb), Arsenal are keeping close tabs on AC Milan winger Suso and Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, with Unai Emery keen to make radical changes to the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger.

The report adds that the Gunners are likely to strengthen in wide positions. (Sun) They tried to do that in the January window, when they were linked with moves for either of Yannick Carrasco or Ivan Perisic, but nothing materialised. (Sky Sports)

The Sun further claims that Emery might be forced to sell either of big-money contract holders Mesut Ozil or Henrikh Mkhitaryan to make way for new signings.

Suso has one of the standout performers for the Rossoneri this term in the Serie A, as a result, Arsenal’s interest in the Spaniard doesn’t come as a surprise. The 25-year-old has registered five goals and eight assists in 22 appearances in the league, helping Milan keep their top-four hopes alive.

The Spaniard played for Liverpool back in his teenage days, before being sold to Milan in 2015. The move to the Serie A worked in favour of his development, and after a successful loan spell at Genoa, he went to establish himself as a regular for the Rossoneri. Suso has accumulated 21 goals and 34 assists in 123 appearances for the Serie A giants across all competitions.

Primarily a left-footed creative ace operating as an inverted winger down the right, the 25-year-old is also adept at playing out on the left and through the centre in a No.10 role. Regarded as a quick, agile and technically-gifted playmaker, the Spaniard is known for his vision and the ability to pick out key passes at the right moment.

Blessed with wonderful close-control, Suso backs himself to beat the opposition with the ball at his feet and often brings others into play with inch-perfect through balls or crosses delivered into the penalty area. Furthermore, he is someone who likes to cut inside, work in the half-spaces with intelligent positional play and never shies away from having a crack on goal.

To put things into perspective, he could be a great signing for Arsenal ahead of the upcoming season, especially due to the fact that he would add width to their attack, something which is needed in the team.

As of now, the Gunners only have one out-and-out winger in their squad – Alex Iwobi. The likes of Mkhitaryan, Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have played there but it is clear that a natural winger would be able to impact in a better way in wide areas.

Suso can hold the width if required, and can also cut inside to link-up with the number 10 or the striker. In fact, Arsenal can become more dangerous in the final third if they have the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette working in tandem with the Spaniard.

Opinion – Arsenal should replace their German liability with this Bundesliga prodigy in the summer

To conclude, it is a no-brainer that the Gunners need more depth and quality in their reserves to challenge for the title, and signing Suso in the summer would definitely be a step in the right direction.
