Why Arsenal must appoint Brendan Rodgers at the earliest

Arsenal recently sacked Unai Emery after a string of disappointing displays in the ongoing campaign. With nearly two-thirds of the season ahead, it is imperative for the Gunners to hire a replacement at the earliest.

For the time being, Freddie Ljungberg is serving as the interim manager but he hardly did anything to impress in his first match in charge, which was a 2-2 draw with Norwich City. Now, as per The Sun, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is being touted as a potential option.

The Northern Irishman’s reputation has skyrocketed over the years. Since his infamous Champions League fiasco with Liverpool, Rodgers went on to enjoy unprecedented success with Scottish giants Celtic. Not only did he dominate every single domestic competition for years but he also guided the Bhoys to a historic treble treble.

The current Foxes manager has also shown promising signs in the Premier League this season so far. Leicester are placed 2nd in the standings, having secured 32 points in 14 games.

While they are 8 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool, Rodgers’ men are 3 ahead of defending champions Manchester City. If there is anything that the 46-year-old tactician has proven over the years, it’s his ability to take charge of faltering teams and building them into top-class outfits.

Granted, he somewhat struggled with Liverpool when he was in charge but he did steady the sails for the Merseysiders to a certain extent. And as far as his time at Celtic is concerned, the trophies speak for themselves.

Since his return to the Premier League has also worked well at the King Power Stadium, Arsenal would be wise to consider him as a serious contender. Armed with ample experience, top-flight knowledge and a glittering trophy cabinet, Rodgers has all the tools needed to do what Unai Emery couldn’t at the Emirates.

Thus, the Gunners must go all out to acquire his services from the Foxes at the earliest. With the mid-season trading period set to commence in less than a month, Arsenal should appoint him now and provide him with adequate time to make the required signings in January.
