Wolves Opinion: Why Yacine Brahimi would be a solid fit at the Molineux?

According to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Wolves are one of the clubs interested in signing FC Porto star, Yacine Brahimi.

The Algerian international, 29, is out of contract at Portuguese giants FC Porto at the end of this month and will become a free agent. He is coming off the back of his most prolific season in Portugal where he managed 13 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

Given the 29-year-old’s quality, European experience and above all availability on a potential free transfer next month, he is in huge demand.

Apart from Wolves, Everton and Marseille have also shown interest in Brahimi, who has been on the books of FC Porto since signing from Spanish club Granada back in 2013.

Wolves will be playing in Europe after a fantastic 2018/19 campaign in the Premier League where they finished seventh in the table.

Thus, they’ll need to have a bigger squad to compete on all the fronts. Expectations will be high from the Wanderers this term and Nuno Espirito Santo will look to do everything possible to break into Premier League’s top-six.

The Midlands club’s links with Yacine Brahimi certainly makes a lot of sense, given the lack of depth, creativity and firepower in the club’s attacking ranks.

With Helder Costa now Leeds United’s number one transfer target, Ivan Cavaleiro set to follow the suit out of Molineux this summer and Adama Traore enduring a disappointing debut season at the club, Nuno would need to bring in substantial reinforcements to bolster the attack.

Someone like Brahimi could help Wolves solve a lot of problems. It is very apparent that they need more quality in their ranks to challenge for a top-six finish next term and a versatile attacking midfielder certainly fits the bill.

A technically-gifted attacker, blessed with great pace and power, Brahimi is expert in dribbling and often tends to cut in on his right foot from the left flank.

The 29-year-old is not only capable of setting up goals with defence-splitting through balls but he is also more than capable of adding that much-needed energy and unpredictability to the attack. The Algerian has bags of European experience and has proven his ability to chip in with valuable goals as well.

Brahimi is exactly the sort of signing to get fans off their seats in the Premier League, bringing even more creativity to Nuno’s exciting team.

Plus, he has played under Nuno when he was in charge at Porto in 2016/17 should appeal to him. In terms of a statement signing, Brahimi would be exactly that for Wolves.

Verdict

With Brahimi seemingly hitting his prime at 29 and available for nothing, Wolves must take a punt on the Algerian speedster.
